Challenge Check-In: How am I challenging myself (Realistically)

Well, I am happy to report that I have been doing really well with my reading challenge and blogging habits.

  • I have dedicated four hours of reading each week for books just for children’s lit- not including reading for my other classes
  • Every week I read in a specific American Library Association book award. Sometimes it’s several books and sometimes it’s a longer chapter book, but I try not to stray from the specific award category.
  • I respond to all comments on my blog in a timely fashion
  • I have set aside specific times where all I do is read five blogs and comment on all five  blogs. I’ve been doing this at least three days a week and I have noticed that it saves me a lot of time because I am not reading blogs and weeding through posts to find one that I have a critical response to -I just respond to them all.

Thank you for all of the tips, advice, and motivation!

I hope everyone else is meeting their goals!!

  1. I have really been enjoying reading about your forays into the various award categories. How do you choose which award category to read each week? What influences what you read in that category each week?
I love your idea of setting aside time for blog reading and commenting. I find I do this more in the edge time of my day (especially when I need a break from reading a textbook or writing a paper).
Sounds like you are doing great at your challenge!

    1. Thank you! Honestly, reading everyone’s book recommendations for the week are what really influences my reading for my challenge. If someone mentions that they enjoyed a Theodor Seuss Geisel award winner that week I decide to delve deeper into that category!

  2. I’m glad that you are doing well in your challenge! I had to change mine up a bit.. I like the idea of reading certain award books that seems like a great idea! Good luck continuing with your challenge!

  3. It sounds like you are doing an excellent job staying organized and motivated about your challenge! Good job! Can you tell me more about your blog commenting? So, are you picking 5 blogs you know you like, and then just commenting on several of their posts each week, to make your 10 comments?

    1. Well, I recently updated me wordpress feed to include all of the blogs from this class rather than using feedly (for some reason feedly was harder for me to use- wordpress seems more organized), but before that I was mainly commenting on the people that commented on my blog posts which was very limited, I hate to admit. Now I just go down my feed and comment on those blogs that catch my eye!

  4. Looks like you aren’t having any troubles meeting your reading goals! It’s good that you found a system for commenting on other blogs that works for you too!

    1. Thank you! I have been getting a lot of comments on this and it makes me feel so great! My system has become even more organized and efficient since I added everyone’s blots to my WordPress reader and stopped using feedly.

  5. That’s awesome your doing so well with your reading challenges I had difficulty commenting on peoples blogs, but i’ve adopted a process similar to yours. It’s much easier than waiting to the last minute! Thank you for sharing!

    1. Awesome I’m glad I have been a good influence on so many of my readers! I thought that my system was a little coarse, but it seems to be working for me and some others! Keep up the great work!

  6. I think that remembering to comment on other blogs is my biggest struggle. I forget about it until I realize that I am like 30 comments behind. I think that your method would be a great one to use!
